General description of the works: In the course of the expansion of the ferry terminal Sassnitz a new berth was built in sheet piling construction in the area of the harbour which is open towards the sea. The work comprised building a new rear-anchored mixed sheet piling wall with a length of 420 m including the hydraulic steel construction work as well as the required dredging work to provide sufficient water depths in the area of the new berths. At the same time, soil was supplied in hopper scows for the backfilling and the landfill of the surface and for the creation of a new industrial area. In addition, a new mole made of hydraulic construction stones was built in the southern area and dolphins installed in front of the berths nos. 1 and 2.
